Zaandam is a city in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland. It's part of the municipality of Zaanstad and is situated near the Zaan River. The city has a rich heritage linked to traditional Dutch windmills and the historic Zaanstreek region. Zaandam was historically significant as an industrial hub and continues to showcase well-preserved historic buildings, including houses from the 17th century. The city is also known for Czar Peter House, where Peter the Great stayed during his visit to the Netherlands. Today, it offers vibrant shopping districts, cultural activities, and picturesque canals, making it an attractive destination for tourists.

Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is an open-air museum village with traditional wooden houses, working windmills, and craft workshops. You can stroll through the cobblestone streets, see how wooden clogs (the traditional Dutch shoes) and cheese are made, and also visit some of the windmills.

The Grote Markt:

The main square of Zaandam. It is a lively place with bars, restaurants and shops. In the large market square in the center of the city, most of the most interesting buildings gather, including the old and picturesque Fleshers' Hall, built by Lieven de Key in 1603, and that now houses the city hall; the old Stadsdoelen, where the burghers gathered in arms; the Groote Kerk, or Great Church; and the statue erected in 1856 to Laurens Janszoon Koster, the printer.
