Jokulsarlon
Jokulsarlon is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. The lagoon was created by the melting of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and has grown since then. It is now the deepest lake in Iceland at over 248 meters. The lake is filled with large icebergs that attract visitors who often take boat tours to witness the calving icebergs close up. The lake also supports a diverse array of wildlife, including seals, which can often be seen resting on the floating ice. The striking blue of the icebergs, alongside the mountains in the background, makes Jokulsarlon one of the most picturesque and popular tourist destinations in Iceland.
Breidamerkursandur
Breidamerkursandur is a vast glacial outwash plain located in the vicinity of Jokulsarlon. It is formed from sediments carried by glacial rivers from the melting Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The plain is characterized by black sand and small glacial rivers that twist and turn towards the ocean. It is an area of fascinating geological dynamics, where you can witness the effects of glacial melting and sediment deposition. Breidamerkursandur also offers stunning views of nearby icebergs and is a unique spot for photography enthusiasts.
