Tirana, the capital of Albania, is known for its colorful buildings, built throughout the Ottoman, fascist, and Soviet eras. Skanderbeg Square, named after the national hero in whose honor his equestrian statue was erected, is dotted with pastel-colored buildings and is the nerve center of the city. North of the square is the National History Museum, in modernist style, which covers from Prehistory to communism and the uprising against this regime in the 90s.
