Fort of San Felipe

The Fort of San Felipe is a historic fortification located in the center of Bacalar. It was built in 1729 to protect the town from pirate attacks during the colonial period. The fort is constructed in the shape of a star and features moat-like defenses and thick stone walls. Today, the fort houses a museum where visitors can learn about Bacalar's history, the pirate invasions, and the strategic importance of the fort.
