Luxor

Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. It is located on the site of the ancient Thebes, the capital of the pharaohs at the peak of their power, during the 16th to 11th centuries BC. The modern city surrounds two huge surviving ancient monuments: the elegant Luxor Temple and the Karnak Temple, a mile to the north. The royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are located on the west bank of the river.
