Marrakech

Marrakech is an ancient imperial city in the west of Morocco and an important economic center with mosques, palaces, and gardens. The medina is a walled and densely populated medieval city that dates back to the Berber Empire period, with passages that seem like labyrinths and lively souks (markets) selling ceramics, jewelry, and traditional fabrics. The Moorish minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque from the 12th century is a symbol of the city visible from miles away.

Medrassa Ben Youssef

The Ben Youssef Madrasa is an annexed madrasa to the Ben Youssef Mosque, in Marrakech, Morocco. It houses some of the most beautiful examples of Moroccan art and architecture. The madrasa, where more than 800 students memorized the Quran, was founded by Sultan Abou al Hasan in the 14th century.

Medina of Marrakech

The Medina of Marrakech, founded by the Almoravids in 1070-72, became the capital and the economic-political and cultural center of these nomads. During the following two centuries, the city developed from the original Almoravid layout. From the original medina or fortified city, the walls built in the 12th century (1126-1127) and the palm groves in the east of the city are preserved.

Jemaa el-Fna

The square of Yamaa el Fna or Jemaa el-Fna is the main square and the most famous place in the Moroccan city of Marrakech. It rises a few meters from the Koutoubia Mosque, so it is dominated by its minaret. Surrounding the square are also several mosques, more modest, that accompany the Koutoubia.

Koutoubia Mosque

The Koutoubia Mosque is a mosque, a building for the worship of the Islamic religion, built in the 12th century in the city of Marrakech in Morocco, representative of Almohad art. It is the largest mosque in Marrakech.
