Maggiore Square
Piazza Maggiore is the central square of Bologna, Italy, surrounded by some of the city's most significant landmarks including the Basilica of San Petronio, the Palazzo dei Notai, the Palazzo d'Accursio, the Palazzo del Podestà and the Palazzo dei Banchi. It is a pedestrianized area and is the heart of the city's social and cultural life, often featuring open-air events, public gatherings, and concerts. Basilica of San Petronio
The Basilica of San Petronio is the main church of Bologna, Italy. It is the tenth-largest church in the world by volume and it dominates the Piazza Maggiore. The basilica is dedicated to Saint Petronius, the patron saint of Bologna. Its construction began in 1390 and was never completed, giving it the peculiar look of a rough facade. Inside, it hosts a variety of artworks and historical features, including the longest sundial in the world, designed by the astronomer Giovanni Cassini.
