Bucharest

Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, is known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, Belle Époque buildings, and a reputation for the high life which in the 1900s earned its nickname of 'Little Paris'. While much of the city was damaged or destroyed by war, earthquakes, and Nicolae Ceaușescu’s redevelopment projects, many important architectural gems survive. Bucharest has numerous attractions and landmarks such as the massive Palace of Parliament, the second-largest administrative building in the world, along with medieval churches, Art-Nouveau palaces, and the beautiful Romanian Athenaeum. The city also boasts diverse cultural institutions, parks, and a vibrant nightlife.
